    Once Again, It’s Tax Time!

    By jmh | April 12, 2006

April 15th is upon us, are you ready? Since the 15th falls on a Saturday this year, the due date for filing your tax return is Monday, April 17th.

Even though we have been given two extra days, time is running out! Here are 3 tips to help you get through April 15th and to get you started on the right path for next years’ taxes.

    1. Just do it!  No need to explain this one. Simply sit down and get started with your return. You will be amazed how quickly the task will be completed. Procrastination weighs us down and uses up energy better used elsewhere.

    2. File an extension if you must, but file!  Taxpayers choosing not to file, will be faced with a big bill (interest, late fees and a penalty for failure to file). If you cannot file by the 17th, file for an extension. Remember though you still need to pay your taxes at that time. If you cannot make full payment ask for an installment agreement. And please, consult with a tax professional regarding any of the above!

    3. Get organized now!  The minute you have finished your tax return get organized for the next tax round (yes, one of the few things we can take for granted in this life!). Getting organized means putting your 2005 paperwork away, creating categories and corresponding folders for 2006 and filing any papers that may have accumulated since the beginning of the year. Sounds easy, doesn’t it?
